How to keep presenter notes private on a Mac

Your prompt should not become the slide

Presenter notes are useful because they contain what the audience does not need to read: the next question, an internal reminder or the line that helps you recover when you lose your place. Keep them in a clearly separate place from the content being captured.

On a single Mac, that starts with the source you share. Moving a notes window behind the slides may make your desktop look ready, but it does not establish a lasting boundary when you switch apps or enter a different presentation mode.

   Put prompts in a dedicated app

   Keep the notes in an application you can exclude entirely. Do not mix public material and private notes in the same app if the workflow depends on an app-level rule.

   Mark the notes app private

   In ScreenVeil’s Private apps list, choose that app. Keep the slide or demo app available to the feed.

   Share the filtered window

   Start Privacy Screen, leave it open while selecting it, then choose that window in your meeting tool. Selecting your real desktop bypasses the filter.

   Rehearse transitions

   From a second device or a short recording, check the first slide, next slide, app switch and return from slideshow mode. Open the notes during the rehearsal and verify they remain absent.

Watch the switch into full-screen slides

Presentation apps can create a new window or change how their presenter and audience views are arranged. If you selected a specific slide window before starting the slideshow, confirm that the actual audience source still updates afterward.

Google documents that a slideshow can appear blank in Meet when the shared window differs from the full-screen presentation. Its general troubleshooting advice may suggest sharing the whole display, but that is a different privacy boundary. If you use ScreenVeil, do not silently replace its filtered window with an unprepared desktop share.

Keep the escape route simple

Use brief notes that you can read without covering the work you need to interact with. Before the call, practice covering the feed or stopping the meeting share if you need to open unexpected material. Resume only after checking the intended content.

ScreenVeil does not selectively redact a notes pane inside an unhidden slide app. When notes and slides are inseparable in the app’s output, change the source or notes arrangement rather than relying on a rule that filters the whole application.
